Mangaluru, Jan 18: As per the orders of the Supreme Court, which has asked to clear the religious structures that are built on encroached public property like playground and parks, Sindhu B Rupesh, deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district has asked the relevant authority to submit a report on such structures in the district.

The DC held a meeting in this regard on Friday, January 17 and instructed the concerned officials to give a report on the action taken to demolish such illegally built religious structures.

Supreme Court had passed an order in 2009 to demolish illegally built religious structures. Accordingly, the state government had chalked out a comprehensive implementation plan and had taken out a guideline in this regard in 2010. A district committee is formed in every district to keep a tab on such illegal religious structures and these committees have been asked to submit a report once in every three months.

In the district committee that is formed to monitor the building of illegal religious structures is headed by the deputy commissioner. Commissioner of city corporation, CEO of zilla panchayat, prominent officials of taluk and local governing bodies are there in the committee.
