Moodbidri, Oct 6: The Rebellions won the finals of Jerusha Belvai Premier League (BPL) cricket tournament held on Sunday October 4 and gained the fame to be the first champions of BPL – 2009.

The game included two rounds, wherein each team had to play two matches with every team. The final match was held among the top two teams, Warriors and Rebellions. Rebellions won the toss, elected to bat first and set a target of 58/2 runs in 4 overs. Warriors found it hard to chase the target and thus Rebellions emerged winners by 18 runs.

The presentation ceremony of BPL was attended by Belvai parish priest Fr Richard Saldanha, co-sponsor Alwyn Fernandes and franchise of Warriors Baptist D’Mello. The winners and runners-up were honoured with trophy and cash prizes.

The BPL was organized by ICYM parish unit of St Martin De Porres, Belvai, near here from September 6. The matches were played on weekends while four teams drawn from parish wards participated. The BPL tourney was sponsored by Belvai parishioners Rudolf Fernandes and family.
