Udupi, Oct 9:
A day’s Bio-diversity Awareness Programme was held at Poornaprajna College (PPC) mini auditorium, here on Friday October 9, under the aegis of Karnataka Bio-Diversity Board, Bangalore and PPC.

Prakash Nethalkar, deputy conservator of forests, wild-life division of Karkala Range, inaugurated the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Nethalkar said that bio-diversity is mainly affected owing to floods and earth quakes.  Meanwhile, the efficient management of power plants, restricting the use of plastics by promoting re-usage of plastics, can restrict the damage to bio-diversity in the neighbourhood.  The students should be allowed to study bio-diversity by planning visits to nature parks. The town-folks can also join in the efforts of conserving the bio-diversity by attending Nature Camps, he felt.

PPC principal, Prof Rajmohan, presided over the programme.

Mangalore University senate member, Prof B V Mohan, was the chief guest of the occasion.

Karnataka State Wildlife Board member Dr N A Madhyasta delivered a talk on the bio-diversity of the Western Ghats.

PPC student Ashwini compered the programme.  PPC head of the department of zoology, Poornima. proposed vote of thanks.
