Kadaba, Jan 31: Thieves have succeeded in stealing gold and cash from a house at Neeraje in Ramakunja village. They also tried to steal things from two neighbouring houses but failed to break in there. The handiwork of thieves came into the open on Thursday morning.

The thieves opened the door of the window located next to where Aris and Julaika were sleeping, and removed golden anklets weighing four sovereigns from the feet of Julaika. They also took away her vanity bag kept nearby and Rs 800 in cash. The family realized what happened only after getting up the next morning.

The thieves also tried to steal things from neighbouring houses of Razack, working as tailor at Uppinangady and entrepreneur Ummer, but failed. After complaint was filed in Kadaba station, sniffer dogs from Mangaluru came here and surveyed the surroundings.

Police circle inspector Nagesh Kadri, Kadaba sub-inspector Rukmaya and others visited the spot.

The thieves had tried to break open the rear door of Razack's house nearby but the family members woke up at the sound. When they realized that the family members were awake, the thieves fled from there. They also tried to enter the house of Ummer by breaking the rear door, and the bolt was found having fallen down as the thieves pushed the door hard from outside.
