Mangaluru, Feb 1: The Trained Nurses Association - Karnataka State Branch - (TNAI - KSB) Mysuru Zone in association with various schools and college of nursing as well as hospitals in Mangaluru, marked the international year of the nurse and midwife to commemorate the 200th Birth Anniversary of founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale a pioneer of nursing, with a candlelight march on Friday, January 31.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated 2020 as the international year of the nurse and the midwife as recognition of the contributors made by nurses in health care and for achieving the substantial developmental goals.

All principals of various institutions, flagged off the candlelight march at the Balmatta ground. From there around 1,800 students and faculties from 21 nursing institutions took out a procession from Balmatta to Kadri ground, where they lit candles and dedicated themselves by taking the nurses pledge. A, principal, Unity College of Nursing, administered the oath and Sr Dhanya, principal, Athena College of Nursing, highlighted the significance of the candlelight march following which vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Larissa Martha Sams, principal, Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing.
