Kaup, Feb 3: Air bags of a moving car got deployed all of a sudden on national highway 66 near here on Sunday February 2 afternoon. The incident happened near Tekalathota, Katapady.

Shivaprasad, owner of Kaushal Bricks hollow blocks manufacturing company at Katapady entered the highway from a local road in his car via Katapady on Sunday afternoon. As soon as the car touched the highway, both the air bags of the car got deployed for reasons unknown. For some time, smoke smelling like some gas filled the car, giving rise to anxious moments.

Shivaprasad parked his car by the side of the road and contacted friends. After his friends and people from a local garage came there and checked, the car show room was informed. As the place where the car reached the highway is a junction, the car was moving slowly at the time. If the incident had happened when the car was moving at high speed, it would have posed grave danger.

The car was taken away by the car company for studying the circumstances under which the air bags opened without the car having come to an abrupt stop. Normally air bags deploy whenever some accident involving the vehicle happens, some object hits the front portion with strong impact, when the car overturns, or when the sensor linked to the air bags suffer damage.
