Chamarajanagar: Forest brigand Veerappan's aide held after gap of 27 years

Chamarajanagar, Feb 3: The police have succeeded in arresting the wife of an aide of forest brigand, Veerappan. Stella alias Stella Mary from Nallur village near Martalli in Kollegal taluk stands arrested.

Stella had made forest her home when she was 13. Now she is 40. A case of carrying loads of weapons had been registered against her. She was a member of a gang which was entrusted with the task of running with loads of weapons and ammunition when Veerappan and his helpers attacked a forest patrol on April 9, 2003, and again during the bomb blast at Palar.

Stella had gone underground till now. After her husband, Sunda, died due to ill health, she had married Veluswamy from Chennipluradadoddi in Jageri, Kollegal taluk and was engaged in agriculture in a six acre plot. After wild elephants entered her land and the forest officials fired to disperse the animals, fire was ignited in her land. At that time the police came to know her presence and thereafter arrested her.
