Udupi, Oct 19: The commuters of the national highway stretch between Kundapur and Suratkal heaved a sigh of relief, after coming to know that the huge pot holes and craters that dot the national highway17 stretch from Kundapur and Suratkal will undergo some repairs soon.

It is learnt that a sum of Rs 33 lac has been released for the work of closing the potholes on the national highway 17 in Kundapur division. A sum of Rs 14 lac has been released for repairing the national highway stretch falling under Udupi division. These funds are being released from the natural calamity fund, as there is pressure from the ministers, MPs and MLAs to undertake emergent repairs of the badly damaged national highway, journey on which gives a nightmarish experience as of now.

At the same time, the Dakshina Kannada district administration is expected to release funds from its natural calamity fund, if the national highway authority fails to do anything to repair the highway, as it also faces lot of pressure from several quarters to undertake the road repairs on its own.
