Mangalore: Foundation Stone Laid for Works Under MRPL III Phase

Mangalore, Nov 3: A ceremony was organized at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd(MRPL) - Oil and Natual Gas Commission (ONGC) premises in Bala village near Suratkal on Monday November 2, for laying the foundation for the Crock Drum Structure Package (CDSP) of the Delayed Crocker Unit (DCU), as part of the III phase of capacity expansion plan of MRPL, slated to be executed in 444 acres of land at a cost of Rs 13,964 crore.

City mayor, Shankar Bhat, who participated as the chief guest at the programme, hailed MRPL-ONGC for making considerable contributions to the economic progress of the country. He noted that MRPL is emerging as a hope for the unemployed youths of the district. Bhat also patted MRPL-ONGC for its positive responses to the plans of the Corporation to achieve integrated development of the city.

He also said that a decision will be taken about bringing Bala village in which MRPL-ONGC is housed, into the limits of the local city corporation, in the next council meeting of the Corporation. He noted that works will soon start on a six-lane road between Suratkal and MRPL, for which MRPL has contributed six crore rupees.

Inspector general of police (IGP), western range, Gopal B Hosur, who was the other chief guest at the function, advised the industrial concerns to lay more stress on safety and security aspects. He appreciated MRPL for giving due importance to safety and for having emerged as the only accident-free industrial concern in the country.

Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Dr A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, exhorted MRPL to contribute more towards education. Deputy mayor of the City Corporation, Rajani Dugganna, MRPL human resources officer Lashminarayan, L K Gupta of finance department, group general manager, Vijay J Joshi, G S Ravindran of finance department, A Ramasubrahmanyam, K S Koppalmar of materials deport, corporate communications deputy general manager, Lakshmi Kumaran, assistant commissioner, Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, Engineers India Ltd executive director, K Rajan Jain, etc., were present.

MRPL managing director, U K Basu, delivered the introductory address. Planning department group general manager, Sushil Chand, welcomed and compered the programme.

The works presently started have an outlay of Rs 538 crore, out of the total Rs 13,964 crore expansion plans. Engineers India will function as the project consultant. Punj Lloyd Ltd New Delhi is the executing agency for the project.
