Lokayukta Decries ‘Shameful Act’ of Legislators from Flood-hit Constituencies

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Nov 4: The Lokayukta, Justice N  Santosh Hegde, minced no words in terming the act of the legislators from the flood-hit areas in north Karnataka, who are enjoying in resorts, instead of working for the devastated people of their constituencies. “Would the sky have befallen if they had delayed their struggle for power by a few days? They were expected to be with their people and supervise the relief operations to ensure that they reach the right hands. Their people are on the streets, and the MLAs are leisurely passing their time in neighbouring states,” a fuming Hegde criticized.

The Lokyukta has been disturbed by a number of complaints of mismanagement and wrong flood relief works that have been flowing in regularly. “At a time when people are complaining about improper relief works, the legislators are not there to look after the operations. Nothing can be more shameful from this. Personal gains seem to be the top priority on their agenda,” he commented.

Justice Hegde said that about 25 people have been deputed to the flood-affected regions to keep a watch on the flood-relief works.  He said, on the basis of the complaints, a detailed report would be prepared and submitted to the state government. “In the report, we will commend the good work done, wherever applicable, by the officials. We do not like to just keep complaining,” he said.

The report may also indicate the names of the officials responsible for the misuse or misappropriation. It is up to the government to take action, Hegde explained.
