Hebri, Nov 17: A tusker went on rampage near Kaltoor–Santekatte area at Kombe Road on Monday November 16.

The tusker ventured out of the forest into the inhabited area and partially damaged the house owned by Jalajabai.

The wild tusker also attacked 55-year-old Anand Shetty, who was a loner and moved around in the vicinity with the help of a stick.  He was critically wounded and was taken to Udupi district hospital before being shifted to KMC Hospital at Manipal where he is being cared for.

Rangers from Hebri Forest Range arrived with the conservator and tracked the footprints of the pachyderm, which is believed to have fled towards Balebail forest located at Karje, near Bramavar.

The fading daylight also posed a hindrance to forest rangers in pursuing the wild tusker in the woods.
