M'lore: Release of Woman from Rehabilitation Centre – MLA Admits He Might Have Acted in Haste

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Nov 18: Addressing a press conference in the Congress Party office here on Monday November 16, MLA U T Khader denied that any FIR had been filed against him about kidnapping of a city-based woman, as rumoured. “I had got her released from the rehabilitation centre, with the intention of helping a woman in distress. On second thoughts, I feel I might have acted in haste,” he admitted.

He expressed his resentment at the incidents of assault on the students bound for excursions or games. Terming this to be a worrying development, he said assault on sportspersons adversely affects sports activities. While condemning the incident, he said people who have genuine concern for the country’s development would not indulge in such heinous acts.

“The government has made participation of students in sports activities compulsory. But the sportsmen and women are not getting proper security. This casts a wrong impression on the minds of the students. If the future of students is ruined, the future of the country also gets affected,” he rued. He urged the government to take up legal steps to see that such incidents do not recur.

Khader criticized the transport minister for sitting in Bangalore and issuing statements, without having knowledge of the ground reality. Noting that proper bus services are not in place at several places where they are badly needed, he criticized the department’s initiative in running additional services to centres where already ample bus services are in place.
