Udupi, Nov 21:
Thieves stole 13 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 10,000 in cash from a house located in Padubidri lower market on the night of Thursday November 19.

The thieves entered the rented house of Harish Jois by breaking the window rods, when his mother-in-law Vani was alone at home.  Harish had gone to attend a religious event at his native village in Yellur.

The theft came to light after Vani woke up on Friday morning.  The thieves have stolen a bracelet weighing 6 grams, two earrings of half a sovereign each, two pendants, two rings of 2 grams each, a chain of one sovereign, a diamond chain of three sovereigns, and earrings of two sovereigns each besides Rs 10,000 in cash.

The thieves seem to be familiar with gold jewellery as they have left behind the artificial gold ornaments.

The rising incidences of theft in Padubidri locality are causing alarm to the local residents.

In a recent incident, thieves had stolen jewellery from a house at Nadsalubeedu in a similar manner, but so far the local police have not arrested the accused.
