Mangalore, Nov 22: What do writers think of their parents? Finding an answer to this question is the focal point of a book being released here on Sunday.

The book, ‘Eradu Talemaru’ (two generations), appears to have come up with everything that a reader may expect to hear from writers about their parents.

If Sabiha Bhoomigowda, president of the Kannada Study Centre, Mangalore University, recalls how scared she was of her father and how she used to venture out of the house through the backdoor to avoid him, writer U.R. Ananthamurthy remembers a discussion with his father on the Russian Revolution that led to an argument. The book is a brainchild of a writer based in Kodangallu village near Moodbidri and a schoolteacher Aravind Chokkadi. Mr. Chokkadi said in a write-up on the book that 57 writers and politicians had spoken about their parents.

He said writer G. Ramakrishna recalled how his mother came to his rescue when his father ordered that he should wake up early and study.

He quoted politician Y.S.V. Datta recalling his mother hiding him in a room lest visitors knew that her son did not have decent clothes to wear. The book will be released on Sunday at Mahesh Pre-University College at 10 am.
