Sullia, Nov 23: Subrahmanya, where celebrations in connection with the annual car festival are going on, came under the spell of heavy rains on Sunday November 22evening. Several other parts of the coast also got rains.

The annual car festival of this temple town is being held on Monday November 23. Sunday too was an auspicious occasion, as ‘Panchami’ as per Hindu calendar, is deemed to be an ideal time to worship the serpent God, the presiding deity of this temple. Lot of people had congregated in this connection, and they faced problems due to the sudden downpour, which was the heaviest in the district. The devotees are apprehensive about the possibility of rain pouring again on Monday.

Bantwal too got heavy rain on Sunday evening. Kinnigoly, Kateel, Mulky, Suratkal, Udupi, Manipal and some parts of Karkala taluk got heavy rains coupled with thunder and lightning. Mangalore and most other places experienced drizzle.

The meteorological department has predicted rains to continue for two more days.
