Mangalore: The Hindu Young World Fest - DP School Bags overall championship

Mangalore, Nov 23: The HinduYoung World Fest 2009 concluded at the Town Hall here on Tuesday with the Delhi Public School, Mangalore erstwhile MRPL School emerging as overall champions. The school bagged the first place in Indian Classical and Folk Dances, and the third place in Western Dance.
 
The two days mega event was organised by The Hindu Newspaper, Mangalore in association with the Corporation Bank.
 
Inaugurated by New Mangalore Port Chairman P. Tamilvanan, the finals on Tuesday had competitions in Rangoli , Drawing, Debate, Flower Arrangement, Cartooning and Classical, Folk and Western/Film Dances.
 
Prizes were given away by Deputy Commissioner V. Ponnuraj. U. Suresh Shenoy, AGM (Retail Sales Unit), Corporation Bank, was among those present.




























 
Ponnuraj said school children from Mangalore and Udupi had always been on the top in cultural activities in the State.
 
Co-sponsors of the event were Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., St. Joseph’s Engineering College, P.A. College of Engineering, and New Mangalore Port Trust. The official telecast partner was Namma TV. The event attracted teams from Udupi, Chikmagalur and Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada districts.
 
Results: Overall champions Delhi Public School (MRPL School), Mangalore.
 
Classical dance: Gayathri & team, Delhi Public School,Mangalore(winners); Praneetha & team, St. Agnes English Primary School (first runners up) and Nagalaxmi & team, Sri Vyasamaharshi Vidyapeetham, Mulky (second runners up).
 
Indian folk dance: Priyanka & team, Delhi Public School (winners), Nilofer & team, St. Agnes High School(first runners up), and Moksha & team, Besant English Medium School, Mangalore (second runners up).
 
Western dance: Roohi & team, St. Agnes Girls High School(winners), Rashmi Assadi & team, Cambridge English Medium School,Mangalore (first runners up) and Gayatri & team, Delhi Public School (second runners up).
 
Flower arrangement: Sidharth Pais & Dan D’silva, St. Aloysius Higher Primary School (winners), Lynn Mascarenhas & Jacitta Mendonsa, St. Agnes Higher Primary School (first runners up) and Suvidha Kamath  & Suphala Kamath ,Vyasamaharshi Vidyapeetham, Mulky (second runners up).
 
Debate: Pramod Anchi  & Gautham, Sainik School, Kodagu(winners); Neha & Team, St. Ann’s High School (first runners up) and Nehal & Team, Sharada Vidyalaya, Mangalore (second runners up)..
 
Cartooning:  M. Mahesh Shetty, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Mudupu (winner); Rahul H. Shetty, St. Aloysius High School (first runner up) and Vasavi Kumblekar, Besant English High School, Mangalore (second runner up)..
 
Rangoli: Suprabha & team, Canara Girls’ High School (winners); Nishmitha & team, Canara Girls’ High School (first runners up), and Prajwal & team, St. Aloysius High School, Mangalore (second runner up).
 
Cheer-leaders: SDM English Medium School, Ujire (winners) and Kerala Samajam English School, Mangalore (runners-up)
 
Best outstation team: SDM English Medium School, Ujire (winners) and Sainik School, Kodagu (runners-up).
