Udupi, Nov 24: On the occasion of Subrahamnya Shashti, celebrated each year on Margashira Shukla Shashti as per Hindu calendar, which is believed to be the day on which Lord Subrahmanya annihilated demon Tarakasura, Paryaya Puttige Swamiji, Sri Sugunendrateertha, offered special puja to Lord Subrahmanya idol installed in Srikrishna Mutt here, on Monday November 23.

Hundreds of devotees were served with lunch, in the form of the Lord’s Prasadam, after the puja. On this day, people of the region believe, that at least one dish made of ash gourd should be consumed to please the Lord.

Many people take a vow to offer ‘Uruluseve (the act of lying on the floor and rolling the body on the banana leaves with leftovers on them, after the people consume food)’ to Lord Subrahmanya, who is believed to also be the Lord of serpents, mostly in exchange for curing skin-related ailments.
