Mangalore, Nov 30: Kota Srinivas Poojary, sitting MLC, has been chosen by the BJP again, as its candidate for the legislative council election from Dakshina Kannada local bodies’ constituency. He filed his nomination papers today. He was accompanied by several BJP leaders including city mayor, Shankar Bhat, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, former MLA, Padmanabha Kottary, etc.

Additional deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Prabhakar Sharma, received the papers.

Kota Srinivas Poojary, who has come up from the grass root level, after being an activist of the party for several years, rose to became a zilla panchayat member besides being the general secretary and president of Udupi district unit of the party. He was elected as MLC last year for a truncated term of 18 months, as the election was held for the unexpired term of the late Blasius M D’Souza, upon the death of whom, the election was necessitated.

The BJP will be fielding only one candidate for two vacant seats. The Congress Party too has decided to field sitting MLC, Pratapchandra Shetty as its candidate for the election. Unless last minute decision is taken by either or both the parties to enter additional candidates from here, the two would be able to easily become victorious.

The election is scheduled to be held on December 18.
