'No plans of extending 21-day lockdown', says Centre

New Delhi, Mar 30 (IANS): Debunking viral reports on social media that claimed government will extend the 21-day lockdown, the Centre on Monday denied them as 'baseless'.

"There are rumours and media reports, claiming that the Government will extend the #Lockdown21 when it expires. The Cabinet Secretary has denied these reports, and stated that they are baseless," the Press Information Bureau on Monday tweeted.

The clarification comes in after the social media went abuzz with reports that claimed that the 21 day lockdown will be extended to a 3-month-long lockdown by the government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced nationwide three weeks lockdown starting from March 24th midnight. He said this is an essential step to fight coronavirus decisively.

"With folded hands, I request you to stay put wherever you are," said the Prime Minister. He added that he is mindful of the economic ramifications of it. However, this is a smaller concern.

Modi warned, if "we don't follow a complete lockdown for the coming 21 days, the nation will go back 21 years and many families will be devastated".

True, Cynthia, in Mumbai people from various housing societies have made elaborate arrangements with grocery suppliers, chemists, etc to supply in bulk which items are left at the podium from where the society members collect the same in a disciplined manner following all safety procedures!

Govt in feb said there is no need to worry right? Why today the lock down and complete kios?

If there are high profile deaths in coming days, this lock down going to be extended. We shall be knowing the truth only in Mid April. It is time to let the people know the truth so that they can prepare themselves better and follow Govt orders.

Starving people won't bother neither Cororona nor law. If their number is higher no law and order could stop them, isnt it? So it is important to make the people prepare themselves for 60days, which is twice than what we may be needing. With 80perc people prepared, it is simpler to manage 20perc. Otherwise at one point of time 80perc will be looking desperately for food all at once, which means violence added to corona threat.

    Look who is talking!!!!

Should the situation go beyond control, the nation will be at more shock than the present one, at the 11th hour.

On the other hand, there is no plan to take care of the needs of the people, especially daily laborers.

Clapping hands, talking to the nation with folded hands will not yield any result.

    Jai Hind!!!

Dear PM, people need food and medicine. So far there is no home delivery! How people can survive without basics? Let the groceries and supermarket be open from from 7am to 6 PM with restricted social distance! Things may improve.

Exactly... We got a big list of super markets, stores, malls, hypermarkets, marts, more, big bazaar etc etc... But no one picks the call. Many are switched off. Nothing is available... So people go out by force. In Mumbai, as per the relatives /friends staying over there, all important shops, d mart, food bazaar are open.... They get everything at their apartments gate... Their markets are open.. Mumbai has lot of population...So most of the people never go out to buy. I don't understand why herein Mangalore all the stores are empty. If trucks go to Kerala why they cannot come to mangaluru? What is this going on?

Dear Cynthia, pertaining to your grievance we too had the same issues here in Mulund. You could try out this n Mangalore. No guarantee because contrast to our metropolis it may not apply in your coastal township. Nevertheless, here's wishing you all the best.

Local authorities including the BMC, police and local elected representatives have roped in around 400 Swiggy and Zomato delivery boys to use them for deliveries of medicines and milk from chemists and dairies. The local DMart has also asked them to deliver bulk orders to societies directly to facilitate consolidated orders, as this will enable less movement on streets. At a meeting with the management of DMart Mulund, we requested them to take a single bulk order from the society and deliver. Around 4 people from the society will have to volunteer to give DMart a consolidated order on WhatsApp. Delivery will be made at the society lobby or podium and individual deliveries will have to be coordinated by the volunteers of each society. As of today 12 societies have got vegetable vendors in their respective societies. Today the balance would be catered to 22 colonies and the next 72 hours it would be ensured that vegetables would reach 60 societies. A meeting would also be conducted with Zomato and Swiggy delivery boys to try to tie them up with chemists and dairies in 15 locations so that deliveries could be facilitated to ensure minimum movement on streets and if successful people will not have to step out for their basic needs.

May god bless all of those who involved in supplying the essentials to the public. This is the best step where people don't have to move out.... Just now one of my friends said they get everything in borivali except fresh fish... But get frozen one... Let everyone be safe, healthy and happy...and here definitely god will take care of us if at all we have done something good to my fellow neighbour in the past... .....not blaming anyone... 🙏🙏
