Udupi, Apr 2: The state government and district administration are putting in their best efforts to monitor the coronavirus infected people and the people who in contact with them. However, certain people who are quarantined are getting on to the roads giving lame excuses.

Personnel of police department and Asha activists have kept a strict vigil on people who are in home quarantine. There was incident recently in which women Asha activists, who went to inquire the health of a home quarantined person, were attacked by the inmates there.

In another incident that occurred at Brahmavar, people who have come from other states and are put in home quarantine have got down to the road in the night saying that they want to do walking. The public who saw these people conveyed the same to Asha activists who gave them strict warning to be at home only. This was shared with Daijiworld by one of the Asha activists.

According to an Asha activist, they visit the house of home-quarantined people twice a day. Still they go out in the night. The Asha activists say that they are helpless in such a case. Asha activists are asking the police also to monitor home-quarantined people and take action on them if they come on to the road in the night on the pretext of walking.

Asha activists say, "Neighbours of home-quarantined people should support us. When the 14-day period of home quarantine is over, they go to the house of the infected person and start having close conversations. This is very difficult to control.

"We are trying to supply the essentials to people who are in home quarantine through panchayat. Sometimes the person, who is under home quarantine switch-off their phones. Those who are under home-quarantine should have concern on others also."

When Daijiworld approached Kiran Goraiah, tahsildar of Brahmavar, regarding the case of home-quarantined person walking on the streets at night, he said, "No incident of that nature has come to my knowledge. If we come across such offenders, we will take action through police immediately."

Speaking to media on the subject, SP of Udupi district Vishnuvardhan said, "We will book criminal case against people, who are under home-quarantine, if they get down to road in the night giving the lame excuse of walking. If public comes to know about such incidents, they need to inform the police department. There is no need of having soft corner towards affected persons. We will also book the case on neighbours if they visit the house of the affected person before the period of home-quarantine is over.

"We will not tolerate the violation of law at this hour when scores of people are dying in the country due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is not the question of life and death of the infected person but of all the people living in the society. No one should show any negligence in this matter. If locals come across such violations, they should inform the same to the nearest police control room."
