Coronavirus: Bengaluru-based startup introduces home screening test kit

Bengaluru, Apr 4: At a time when the whole world is grappling with the death and devastation unleashed by coronavirus, a city-based startup Bione, has come out with test kit that helps people to get themselves tested for coronavirus at their homes.

Indian Council of Medical Research has approved the proposal of the company to release this easy-to-use kit to the market.

Procedure: First of all, the finger has to be cleaned with alcohol swab. A drop of blood has to be drawn from the tip of the finger and placed in the test kit. Within five to ten minutes, the result is given. Things needed to clean the finger, extracting of blood and putting the things back into the kit, are available in the guide kit.

If the result is positive, the concerned have to call the health department, convey information, and offer to be tested again. During this period, the person has to be away from everyone including family. The test kits can be ordered online and its price is between Rs 2,000 to 3,000, the company revealed.

Chief executive officer of Bione, Dr Surendra K Chikara, said that conducting mass testing in places where suspects and coronavirus patents are found is the key to control of coronavirus. The positive cases should be found at the earliest and separated from the crowd, he stressed. The speed with which these operations can be completed decide how fast the disease can be brought under control, he added.
