Bantwal: Intelligence Squad Raids GP President’s Home – Unearths Power Theft

Bantwal, Dec 5: The intelligence squad of Mangalore Electric Supply Company (Mescom) raided the home of a gram panchayat president located in Ramalkatte in the taluk recently, and registered a case of getting illegal power connection against him.

The house of Muhammed Volavoor, resident of Thumbe gram panchayat, was raided by the officials. Muhammed faces the charges of illegally drawing power from the power lines of Mescom and using the same for running electrical equipments at his home and the pump set in his plantation. He was fined Rs 68,000 for the offence.

Apart from registering the case and slapping penalty on Muhammed, they have snapped the power connection to the house, informed Timmappa Gowda, assistant executive engineer of Mescom’s local sub-division.

    Well Done. All electrical connections should be snapped for more than 6 months and then they will realise the cost of doing Illegal activities. Being a GP President itself shows that the Govt servants are the first to flout rules and break laws. Since the laws are weak such illegal activities take place openly. It is time to put a lid to it.
