Udupi: Police Department to Launch Toll Free SMS to Prevent Criminal Activities

Udupi, Dec 9: District superintendent of police, Pravin Madhukar Pawar revealed that the police department will shortly introduce a toll-free SMS service to enable the general public to convey information to the policemen from the spot of the criminal activities. He added that this service become operational within a month.

Speaking after presiding over the inaugural programme of the Crime Prevention Month organized by the district police department at Town Hall in Ajjarkad here on Tuesday December 8, he said that arresting crime can not be achieved by the policemen alone. The policemen can rush the spot and control the situation, only if the people convey the information to them at the earliest, he felt.

He confessed that the police department has been suffering from shortage of staff. 60 people posted to the district police department, are presently undergoing training, he informed.

District deputy commissioner, P Hemalata, who inaugurated the programme, said that it is proposed to introduce the ‘Online Crime Prevention System’ as is in vogue in Chennai, in her office.

Deputy superintendent of police, Jayant Shetty, delivered introductory address. Circle inspector, Girish S V, welcomed. Brahmavar circle inspector, Krishnamurty, proposed vote of thanks. Students and policemen joined in a procession that was taken from the Board High School here to the venue of the programme, prior to the beginning of the programme.
