Udupi: ‘Bhatta Muhoorta’ Relating to Paryaya Performed

Udupi, Dec 11: ‘Bhatta Muhoorta’ is a ritual in which the Swamiji, who is to take over the next Parayaya term, performs puja to the paddy muras. This is the last of the four important rituals that need to be performed on specific days, before the actual ascension to the Paryaya throne takes place.



On Friday December 11, ‘Bhatta Muhoorta’ was performed by Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji of Shirur Mutt. For taking part in the ritual, the Swamiji, who is on a customary tour of different places just before the beginning of his Paryaya term, had come from Chennai. A procession carrying paddy kept in a palanquin, covered with silk cloth, was taken out alongwithe the Swamiji. After performing puja at Chandramouleshwara and Lord Ananteshwara temples, the procession entered Sri Krishna Mutt, where prayers were offered to Lord Krishna, Lord Mukhyaprana of Bhojanashala and Lord Subramnanya, before proceeding to Badagu Malige, the store house during Paryaya. Navagraha Dana was also performed. The priests performed certain rituals there at the appointed time.

Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji delivered the benedictory address on the occasion, specifically touching upon the importance of performing 'Bhatta Muhoorta'.

The programme was attended by several dignitaries including MLA and president of Paryaya Reception Committee, K Raghupati Bhat, Mutt Diwan, Latavya Acharya etc.
