Udupi, Apr 14: A group of youth from Brahmavar helped 300 needy families in the last 12 days amidst the lockdown period. The needy families are from five gram panchayats namely Handady, Harady, Chanthar, Varamballi and Neelavar.

Dileep Handady, orthopedist took on the initiative of distributing rice and essential groceries to five needy families on the first day. Later, he got calls from locals seeking help. His friends and other likeminded people came forward to join hands.

Many donors have helped financially and also by sponsoring rice and groceries. To date, seven quintals of rice have been distributed.

Day by day more needy families are getting help and so far around 300 families including an orphanage have received the help.

Inspired by the noble service of the team many people began distributing food items in their area. The team not only limits to food distribution but also distributes medicines with the support of panchayat members.

Many families are daily wage workers, migrants who are receiving help.

Dileep Handady says, "There are many people who are dependant on daily wages to earn their daily bread. Still, many of the needy are not getting food. Some old age people are really in a pathetic condition. Considering the situation we came forward with this plan thinking it as service. We are expecting that donors will come forward in this emergency time.”

The group includes Navaneeth Shetty, Baby Prakash, Suresh Pai, Rakesh Shetty, Athrayya Joyishi, Nithyanand Poojary, Santhosh, Kiran Devadiga, Sheethal, Pradeep and others.
