Isolate virus hotspots, allow business to reopen: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Apr 14 (IANS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has suggested that the government should isolate virus hotspots and allow business to reopen in other areas.

He slammed the government for the blanket lockdown as the poor have suffered. In a tweet on Monday, he said, "The one-size-fit-all lockdown has brought untold misery and suffering to millions of farmers, migrant labourers, daily wagers and business owners. " he tweeted

The former Congress President said, "It needs a smart upgrade, using mass testing to isolate virus hotspots and allowing businesses in other areas to gradually reopen," he said further in his tweet.

After the Prime Minister's announcement of the extension of nationwide lockdown, the Congress has questioned the government strategy to help the poor. It has also asked the Centre to spell out the strategy with regards to testing people for coronavirus.

The Congress had earlier demanded the phase wise lifting of the lockdown and suggested slew of measures, while party President asked for free ratio to poor the party and senior leader Anand Sharma demanded stimulus package for MSME and Industry.

The Congress chief Sonia Gandhi said on Monday, "Ten kg grain per person may be provided free for six months to those who may be facing food insecurity but not having ration cards. I would like to bring to your notice that all migrant labourers may not be holding NFSA cards. In addition, many deserving people have been excluded from the NFSA lists."

I agree with him at least on this.

The right approach is to isolate HOTSPOTs , seal them and let the business run (with additional precautions ) in low risk areas.

Blanket ban will have a long term repercussions which only a FEW understand.

Scientific criteria for re-open is no positive cases for the past 15 days minimum.

If district fulfills the above criteria, then reopen within its border only. Otherwise strictly no.

Reason behind is, it makes max 15days for virus to make new person acquisition. It is called as incubation period?

Correct. We should have the same approach.

The rate at which it is currently spreading it might take around 4 to 6 months to complete the cycle (frankly anybody can guess, as no one at present knows the exact behaviour). If we go with current approach, what will happen if cases keep on increasing till May3, will it be extended for three more weeks and so on... until we are free of Covid-19?

Measures should be scientific, and not trial and error.

Moreover, such districts have more responsibility of guarding their borders strictly.

Business should have been reopened but how ????
SC ordered yesterday that COVID-19 testing will not be free for above BPL people.
In this present scenario opening / closing both are loss for common men.

Donno when this all will end......
