Karkala based priest Krishna Shanti ends life in Mumbai

Karkala, Apr 15: Krishna Shanti (37), Hindu priest hailing from Erlapady, Byloor, Karkala took his life on Tuesday evening apparently due to mental depression after extension of lockdown.

He had arrived in Mumbai during the third week of March for three days in the temple as substitute for the chief priest who had gone on vacation. However, it was inevitable for him to remain in Mumbai for four weeks because of lockdown. He had made preparations to go home on April 14 as lockdown was to be lifted. It is said that he committed suicide due to mental depression as the lockdown was extended.

He was unmarried and has a mother, two sisters, a brother in Karkala and two brothers in Mumbai’s Shivri and Ghatkoper. The dead body was kept at Shatabdi hospital morgue for postmortem and cremation in Mumbai.

The last rites will be held in association with Bharath Bank director Gangadhar J Poojary, Billavara Association Mumbai Kandivili local committee president Yogesh K Hejmady, honorary secretary, Umesh N Surathkal, Dhananjay S Shanti, Ravindra A Shanti and others.

    I feel very sad for this young man. Suicide is not a solution. May Almighty give everyone strength not to commit suicide. When we face big problems which we cannot then we should seek counscelling.
