Mangalore: Master Plan - By-pass Mooted between Kotekar and Suratkal

Mangalore, Dec 15: Mangalore Urban Development Authority commissioner, P G Ramesh, has informed that there is a proposal to build a by-pass between Kotkar Beeri and Suratkal, to reduce traffic congestion within the city.

He was delivering a lecture on ‘Master Plan – II 2021’ at a programme held in the city under the aegis of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry(KCCI).  “The proposed by pass, which will depart from national highway 48 at Kotekar Beeri, proposes to pass through Deralakatte, Adyar on national highway 48, Neermarga, Tiruvail, Marakada, Tokoor, Bala and reach national highway 17 near Suratkal,” he explained.

Ramesh revealed that widening of 66 roads within the MUDA jurisdiction is proposed. Bids have been invited for building parking complex in three levels in the two-acre plot of the old bus stand of Hampankatta, he revealed, adding that Deember 30 is the last date for receiving the bids. “The proposed parking complex would be able to accommodate about 500 cars. Four bidders have already submitted bids for the project,” he added.

The major projects envisaged in the master plan include construction of truck terminals at Kannur, Bajpe, Hosabettu and Panambur, laying of Mangala Cornice Ring Road from Ullal Netravati Bridge to Kulur, inclusion of Mulky, Ullal municipality and 66 other villages in addition to the city, under the master plan, and dividing the 305 square kms of area under the plan into eight zones and 21 plan districts.

KCCI president, Srinivas Kamat, presided. Vice-president, G G Mohandas Prabhu, treasurer, Lata R Kini, secretaries, Chandrakanta Rao, Mohammed Amin etc., were present.
