Bengaluru, Apr 16: As far as Karnataka is concerned, all the 12 persons who lost their lives due to coronavirus infection were aged. Out of 52 old people infected in the state, 12 have died and five have returned home after regaining health.
As compared to others, the number of senior citizens going home after getting healed is less. Only five out of 52 have recovered fully and 35 continue to be treated in hospitals. Coronavirus infection symptoms are becoming predominant among old people who also suffer from respiratory problems. Out of the 12 who lost their battle with the pandemic, two had the history of visit abroad while another had travelled to Delhi. Nine others had no travel history nor had they come in contact with patients, it is said. In case of seven aged persons, it could not be ascertained from whom they got the infection. These cases are still being investigated by the health department. But the senior citizens who have died, had passed on the infection to over ten people.
In the case of seven old people, test reports were received after they breathed their last. This happened either because of absence of laboratory or negligence in getting tested. In total, 26 percent of infected people from the state are aged.
