Udupi, Dec 16: “The support of the youth and the student fraternity is essential for the police department to curb crimes in society. The youth should be on the guard so as not to become victims of glamour and instead lead their life based on the ideals of elders,” said Santhosh Kumar, deputy superintendent of police, Karkala sub-division.

 
He was speaking at the inaugural of an awareness rally and information programme on ‘The Role of Youth Community in Curbing Crimes’, which was organized by Kaup police at Narayan Guru Auditorium, Kaup, on Tuesday December 15.
 
“The youth are lured into viewing TV serials that lack reality and parents should restrict this.  The craze of mobiles has been endangering the youth and this decreases the presence of mind in observing situations around. Actions are being taken to organize information programmes in every police station, and to create awareness on cyber laws”, said Kumar.
 
Taluk penal officer Prasanna inaugurated the awareness rally to curb crimes, which was held from Halemariamma Temple welcome arch throughout Kaup town.
 
The stage programme was inaugurated by Kaup primary health centre medical officer Dr Rabindra Bolar.
 
Kaup circle inspector B Cheluvaraj, speaking on the occasion, said that the police department has been organizing village-level interactive meets in the rural area. “The support of the general public is necessary to curb the rising crimes”, he said.
 
Kaup sub-inspector Joy Anthony welcomed the gathering.  Padubidri sub-inspector Mohan Kottari proposed the vote of thanks.  Dandateerta College vice-principal M Neelanand Naik compered the programme.
 
The students of Vidyaniketan Group of Education Institutions, Kaup, Mahadevi Girls High School, ZP Model Higher Primary School, and policemen of Kaup, Shirva, and Padubidri participated in the rally.
