Mumbai: Should not ban RSS: Congress leader Singhvi

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai (SS)

Mumbai, May 4: Abhishek Singhvi, senior Congress leader on Sunday commented that he disagrees with those seeking a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the idealogical mentor of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said that India needed divergent views and these remarks came as a response to ‘#BanRSS hashtag’ trend on Twitter.

Singhvi tweeted saying that just like the country needs the extreme left and right views in an economic spectrum, they need Hindu and non-Hindu views as well; In order to truly make India plural, it is important to have people from all walks of life. He added that he hence disagrees with the #BanRSS idea, enough though he disagrees with many RSS views.

Rahul Gandhi, former Congress president has been critical of the RSS. He is currently facing a defamation case for linking the Gauri Lankesh murder case with the RSS. Gandhi said, while stepping down as the Congress president last year after the 2019 Lok Sabha loss that he often had to stand alone to fight against the RSS and PM Modi.
