Mangalore: Various Competitions Mark YCS Annual Event

Mangalore, Jan 10: The annual get-together of YCS members of Mangalore Diocese was held at Rosario Cathedral Cultural Hall on Sunday January 10 from 9 am to 4 pm.

It was inaugurated by Fr Antony George Pinto, scripture professor, St Joseph’s Seminary,Jeppu, during the holy Eucharistic mass. In his homily, he explained the baptism of Jesus along with the day’s theme, ‘To build a peaceful society, to protect the environment, and to be the witness of Christ.’ 

He pointed out the role of young students in building a peaceful society.

After the Eucharist, there were a variety of competitions such as devotional dances, Bible quiz, devotional singing, collage and elocution competitions. 



The best teams that were selected and given awards by the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza are:

Quiz: Neermarga, Mogarnad, Belthangady, and Neerude

Allocation: Viola Mascrenhas-Belvai, Rikhitha Pais-Belthangady, Lavita Priya-Ranipura, Benjohn D’Souza-Kelrai, Elviya D’Souza-Rosario

Singing: Belthangady, Derebail, Mogarnad, Neermarga, Permannuur

Dance: Mogarnad, Belthangady, and Neermarga 

There were individual and group activities related to the day’s theme, in the afternoon. 

In the concluding programme, Dr D’Souza presided. He gave a call to be ambitious in life with the inculcation of moral values.

He highlighted the role of an individual in building a just and peaceful nation. Dr D’Souza also stressed the need to deepen our faith and thus to live a life witnessing Christ. 

YCS diocesan director Fr Ronald Prakash D’Souza, Darel D’Souza, Vamanjoor, president, YCS Karnataka region, National ExCo Murel Crasta, Diocesan secretary Sharal Barboza, and president Jeevan Lobo were also present on the stage. 

The annual report was presented by Sharal Barboza. The valedictory ceremony was compered by Jovita D’Souza, Ashoknagar. The programme concluded with the singing of the YCS anthem.
