Deve Gowda Says 'Son of a B....', Targets CM ?

Bangalore, Jan 10 (IANS): Former prime minister and Janata Dal-Secular president H.D. Deve Gowda landed himself in controversy on Sunday by publicly saying ''bloody b......'', but claimed the invective was not hurled at Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

Gowda, who had joined farmers protesting land acquisition for the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) on the outskirts of Bangalore, while responding to reporters gave the impression that he was abusing Yeddyurappa. He later clarified that he was not referring to Yeddyurappa.

However, statements from Gowda's two sons - former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and former minister H.D. Revanna - defending the father indicated that they too thought the reference was to Yeddyurappa. Yeddyurappa on Saturday had criticised Gowda for joining the farmers' protest even though Gowda had himself cleared the project when he was the Karnataka chief minister in 1995 and the Supreme Court had cleared the land allotment.

Talking to reporters at the protest venue, an angry Gowda shouted "who is he, that bloody b......". He also used a Kannada invective which roughly translates to "son of a b...."

With Kannada TV channels telecasting the episode, the state's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party leaders reacted angrily while Yeddyurappa said he did not expect a former prime minister to stoop so low in public discourse.

He said it appeared Gowda had lost equanimity. Kodihalli Chandrashekar, a prominent farmer leader, also disapproved of Gowda resorting to abusive language in the name of protecting farmer interests.

Kumaraswamy and Revanna, however, defended their father, saying the attack was on Yeddyurappa as an individual and not as the chief minister. Gowda later told a TV channel that he was referring to state Advocate General Ashok Harnahalli as a Kannada daily in which Harnhalli has interests had carried a nasty cartoon and a derisive article against him in its Sunday edition.

He accused the advocate general of misleading the Supreme Court on land allotment for the BMIC. Gowda has been waging a long battle against what he calls excess land allotment for the BMIC project. The project comprises of a four-lane express highway between Bangalore and Mysore, five integrated townships for a population of 100,000 each and a commercial centre and other facilities along the 111-km corridor. Stretches of the highway have been completed and opened to traffic.

Dear Mr.Suvarna, What made you to think only illiterate people use abusive language. If we watch carefully around we can see our literate crowd (but uncivilized) freely using abusive words. As far as our political professional goonda's are concerned, in their profession they are only allowed to use every filthy thing in private not in public.

With all the criminals, corrupt overflowing in all political parties, the language what Deve Gowda used is not unparliamentary, but should be restricted only to parliament. Specially state assembly is the right place to start with.

Dear Mr. Harish, Mangalore these fundamentals have even called Gandhiji as shikandi without knowing the meaning of the word. Gandhiji had Children P.M. Dr. Manmohan Singh had children. While Kumaraswami’s wife contested for assembly elections Mr. Yeddyurappa called Mane-rajakarana (home-politics) and later Mr. Yeddyurappa brought his own son to contest in the elections.

For Nagesh Nayak, all BJP and Parivar leaders are angels and they are pure and pious. In politics sub kuch allowed hai. Today they say some thing, tomorrow they say its misrepresentation by media, day after tomorrow they say "aplogies" and again they say, they are brothers and friends.... Nothing to upset and spoil your head. BOth DG and Yeddi are two sides of the same coin. They are very much there but cant see each other.

We need not read too much into Deve Gowda's filthy language. This is the language they use generally without bothering the meaning of the word. We say ghati language. It has come out of his mouth because of anger and desperation. I do not think Yeddy has to get upset, he is used to such an usage.

Yes, we boast of our culture, we want to preserve our culture. This is also a culture, ghati culture. Nagesh Nayak, please uphold the culture, this is part of Indian culture.Definitely this is not an imported culture.

Until not so long ago Devegowda's son Kumaraswami and Yeddi were sleeping together as CM and Deputy CM. Therefore i am keen to learn since when did Yeddi become a son of a B for Devegowda. The whole world knows that he and his family will lose hundreds of acres of illgotten land if the Bangalore Mysore corridor goes ahead.

His crocodile tears and love for farmers is a very poor act to cover up. The whole Devegowda family has become a joke. After talking big during the elections, Kumaraswami went to Sonia Gandhi's house covering his face with a begging bowl. Now since he and his plans to become CM again through the back door are rejected by the congress he goes about saying the Karnataka congressmen are on Yeddi's payroll. What a joke.

Anybody who did not react when our H'nble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was called a 'Shikandi' by the BJP leaders, has no right to comment on what Ex-PM DeveGowda said. DeveGowda maybe right, may be wrong. What's important is, Yeddy has been trying to prove DeveGowda right ever since he became CM
