Mumbai, May 16: On Saturday, May 16, an assistant police inspector yielded to COVID-19 at a civic run hospital, an official said.
The officer was attached to Shahu Nagar police station in Dharavi. He was 33 years old. It is said that in the early hours of Saturday, the officer was found unconscious at his home and was rushed to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Sion hospital where he later died in the hospital, the official said.
A resident from Pratiksha Nagar in Sion said that the officer had been on leave as was suffering from cold and fever.
The official confirmed that a swab test was sent on Wednesday, May 13, and that he tested positive for coronavirus on the reports that came on Saturday.
With the death of the assistant police inspector, the Mumbai police force reported it's ninth COVID-19 death.
