Bantwal, Jan 15: The partial solar eclipse was viewed by people across the taluk here on Friday January 15.  Some of them viewed it through sets of used x-rays, special lenses and glasses, while others viewed the live coverage on television at home.

The education department announced a holiday for schools and colleges on Friday. The city’s hub B C Road was deserted throughout the day.

People from far-flung areas avoided travelling to the city the due to the eclipse.  The local and long distance passenger buses plied with only a few passengers who opted to travel due to necessity.
