Udupi, May 20: On late Tuesday night, social worker Vishu Shetty rescued a distressed minor who was found roaming on the highway.

On initial enquiry, the boy stated that he was from Udupi and had lost his way home. But, Shetty grew more suspicious of the boy's behaviour and on further interrogation, it was revealed that the boy was a runaway. The minor boy accepted to the fact that he had escaped from his home in Karkala. Further, he claimed that he is a resident of Palli in Karkala taluk. The boy also informed Shetty that his reason for running away was that his mother was physically abusing him.

Shetty immediately contacted minor's parents in Karkala and asked them to take their son home. However, they explained their financial inability to hire a taxi late at night to travel to Udupi.

Due to this, Shetty took the boy in his own vehicle to Palli and handed him over to the parents. The incident has been brought to the notice of Child Protection Department and a detailed report of the same has also been submitted, said Vishu Shetty.
