Mangalore: Special Police Squad Arrests Four with Sandalwood Worth Rs 5 Lac

Mangalore, Jan 19:
The special squad of the superintendent of police arrested four people and seized 161 kgs of sandalwood worth approximately Rs 5 lac on Monday January 18, near Pumpwell in the city. 
 
The arrested are Pradeep D’Souza alias Sandeep (30) resident of Pavoor-Uiya, Ranjith Preetham D’Silva (21), resident of Saripalla 3rd Cross in Neermarga village, Jayaraj (34), resident of Kudkorigudde near Kankanady, and Shridhar (28), resident of Goliyadka in Sullia taluk.


 
The accused were planning to transport the sandalwood in plastic polythene bags to a person in Kerala.

According to the police, they had brought in the sandalwood, which is more than a hundred years old, from Sakleshpur in Hassan district.   
 
The squad headed by sub-inspector Prakash K and probationary sub-inspector Honne Gowda and comprising of constables Ananda, Bhaskar Kamath, Rama Poojary, Sheenappa, Chandrashekar, Girish Suvarna, Sunil Kumar, Rajendra Prasad, David D’Souza, Mohammad Iqbal, and Shiva Naik, participated in this operation.
