Mandya, Jan 22: The diocese of Mananthavady was bifurcated recently, for creating the new Mandya Diocese. The creation of a new diocese was announced by Mar jose Porunnedam, Bishop of Mananthavady, at a function organized at Infant Jesus Church, Hinkal.

Rev George Njaralakkattu, who had been serving hitherto as the vicar general of Bhadravati Diocese since the last two years, has been made the Bishop of the newly created Diocese. The Mandya Diocese will have jurisdiction over Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Hassan districts. Its headquarters will be at the Infant Jesus Church, Hinkal, which will the cathedral of the new Diocese.

The decree about the creation of the new Diocese was announced by Bishop of Mananthavady. Thereafter, he along with the Bishop of Bhadravati,  Mar Joseph Arumachaladathu, also conferred on the new Bishop, the official insignia and other symbols.

Vicar general of Mysore Diocese, Msgr N S Marie Joseph was present on the occasion. The new Bishop will officially take over charge in April, it is gathered.
