Bengaluru, May 26: The airport here, which began operations after a two-month gap on Monday May 25, witnessed the refusal of several passengers to undergo quarantine. The staff at the airport, Centra; Reserve Police Force personnel and airline staff were in readiness to serve the passengers. Even though 215 flights were expected to operate from here out of normal 700, on the first day, only 76 flights were in operation. 

For the passengers coming from six states including New Delhi and Maharashtra, seven-day quarantine is compulsory here. Many passengers protested, saying that they were not aware of these rules, they cannot stay in a hotel for a week etc. After the district administration and police talked to them and convinced them about the ground reality, they agreed. 

Several passengers were seen wearing masks, visors and PPE kits. The passengers said they opted to wear them in the interests of their safety.

Security was beefed up to monitor movement of passengers coming from other states. Instructions and rules were repeatedly relayed over the loudspeakers. Chief executive officer of the airport, Hari Marar, said that areas are cleaned once every half hour to maintain cleanliness.
