Mangalore: Protest Against Lecturer – Students Union Calls for Bandh on Jan 28

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jan 28: The Students Union of Mangalore University has given a call for the University bandh today, taking the view that the decision taken at the university syndicate meeting held on Wednesday January 27 was not acceptable to the students, as it did not address the issues.

The students, who have been spearheading an agitation against one of the mass communications and journalism department lecturer, Umeshchandra, alleging that they have been facing mental torture and other problems from the lecturer, had also launched a hunger strike. However, due to the intervention of MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and the decision of the University to hold another syndicate meeting on Wednesday, they had withdrawn their stir, warning that they would resume their agitation, if the syndicate failed to take proper action. The students have been demanding for the transfer of the lecturer in question.

The syndicate, at its meeting held at the senate hall on Wednesday, decided to restrain lecturer Umeshchandra from taking classes till the University takes further decision on the issue.  The meeting also asked the students to withdraw their stir and attend the classes, promising that a lecturer would be provided in place of Umeshchandra till the issue is decided.

On Wednesday, the students resumed their hunger strike. In the meanwhile, the Union of Dakshina Kannada District Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Organizations held a protest in front of the University building, opposing the convening of the syndicate meeting at the behest of MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel.

MCJ lecturer purposefully created an issue to motivate the students for strike on the other hand different organizations make use of the situation to get the publicity..... media people as usual highlight the situation according to their vision. Now everything went on according to the plan set by the people those who lay behind this issue. As usual students became happy when their lecturer has been transferred to other section of the university.

Who knows who will be the target for these worst, cunning and communal minded persons. Nobody want the development and improvement, everyone trying to maintain their reservation, muslims always want to become minority only and on the otherhand Christians enjoy the situation by their own way. Like this our society became something like stagnent water. At least from now onwards it's better to think about the genuine problems to boost our living standard as well the living environment.

Patrick and Janet, you don't know what is happening in the university. Because of this lecturer the students had to go to the High court to get their problem solved last year. the students had to spend tens of thousands to get the things solved. The same lecturer is creating problems again. He is a dalit hence he is telling the media that sangh parivar is doing all this.

But the truth is amongst the students on hunger strike there is a dalit and all other dalit students are on protest. Nalin kumar came and promised a solution but could not keep his words. The university officials say they cant take action aginst the lecturer and they do not ahve any authority. They are not ready to tell who has the authority also. Students have resorted to go on strike against a teacher or lecturer if they are not favored. It happened with St.Agnes last year and now Mangalore University. The trend will continue and I am sure Mangalore will be left with no teachers.

This is what happens when education gets politicized. Nalianna, Palemar and the likes should not poke their nose. They should not crave for cheap publicity at the cost education and inconvenience to people.
