Mangalore: MCC Continues Demolition Drive on Illegal Constructions in City

Mangalore, Jan 30: The Mangalore City Corporation officials continuing demolition drive on illegal constructions mowed down four shops in Marakada and Kuloor area on Friday January 29.
 

 

The drive began from Kuloor with three illegal structures including a pettyshop being demolished. The two constructions that faced demolition were constructions ordered to be demolished four months ago and were not mowed down due to political pressure, informed the sources in MCC. The two constructions at Marakada were also illegally constructed without getting due license.
 
The demolition drive was headed by assistant revenue officer Praveen, who executed the orders of commissioner of MCC, K N Vijayaprakash. He said that the MCC has noticed many illegal structures, mainly 19 illegal shops constructed without license and also violating building norms. The demolition will continue for a while, he said adding that there were many complaints on illegal structures and the MCC officials are investigating such complaints.
 
Meanwhile there has been a constant complaint demanding removal of petty shops along footpaths in the city that has been posing hazard to the pedestrians mainly senior citizens. The drive to vacate footpaths undertaken by the MCC as well as the district administration has not been followed up in a proper manner for the petty shops in several places came up few hours after they were bulldozed.
