Udupi: DC urges dhobis, barbers to apply for one time relief of Rs 5000

Udupi, Jun 17: “As lockdown was enforced in the state due to COVID-19, workers belonging to the unorganized sector namely dhobis and barbers holding BPL ration cards should apply through Seva Sindhu portal for one time relief of Rs 5,000,” said deputy commissioner, G Jagadeesha. He presided over a meeting at the DC’s office on Tuesday.

“The applicants should be in the age bracket of 18 to 65 years. Only one person is eligible for relief in a family. It is essential for them to have an Aadhaar card linked bank account.

“They should obtain an application format from officials and submit a self-declaration with it. They should furnish BPL card, Aadhaar card, document of date of birth and passport size photograph along with the application. The amount will be credited to the bank account of the applicants if the documents are accurate. Concerned officials can be approached to obtain declaration of their profession,” he said.

District panchayat assistant secretary, Kiran Padnekar, district in-charge labour officer, Amarendra, district urban development project director, Aruna Prabha, other officials and representatives of barber and dhobi communities were present.
