Mangaluru: 422 NRIs arrive by flights from Kuwait, UAE, Muscat

Mangaluru, Jun 18: A total of 422 Indian origin persons facing innumerable problems after having been stranded in Kuwait, Muscat and UAE, reached the airport here late night on Tuesday and Wednesday. As per government guidelines, they have been quarantined in different hotels here.

Two among the flights were arranged on charity basis. One of the flights brought in 174 passengers from UAE in the late night hours of Tuesday. Another flight carrying 168 passengers arrived from Kuwait on Wednesday evening. A flight under the 'Vande Bharat Mission' initiative of the government brought 80 passengers after flying to Bengaluru to Muscat before reaching the city.

The entire expenses incurred on flying 168 passengers from Kuwait has been sponsored by Akbar Travels of India based in Kuwait. This flight came here at 5 pm on Wednesday. The flight from Muscat with 80 passengers under Vande Bharat Mission arrived at 7.30 pm on Wednesday, said Puttur assistant commissioner, Yatish Ullal.

The charity flight which came with 174 passengers from Sharjah, UAE, was arranged by Fortune Group of Hotels there and Praveen Shetty, president of Karnataka NRI Forum.

After health checks, the passengers were sent to different hotels to undergo the seven-day institutional quarantine. The officials stated that their throat swab samples will be collected for corona tests after five days.
