Karkala: Tataaka Sangeeth Mahotsav Held

Karkala, Mar 8: Shastreeya Sangeetha Sabha here successfully organized "Tataaka Sangeeth Mahotsav" in the premises of "Sheshateertha" lake of Shri Venkatramana Temple popularly known as Padutirupathi Kshetra", recently.

The Festival was inaugurated by Jayaram Prabhu, the managing trustee of the temple in the evening. Sri Vinayakananda Swamiji of Bailur Ramakrishnashram blessed the occasion.

The whole venue was lit with thousands and thousands of mud lamps in a very attractive way throughout the festival. Rows of illuminated mud lamps, the reflections of these lamps in the lake water, the beautifully decorated mantapam in the centre of the venue and the simple but attractive programme stage at the lake side with the ascending full moon produced an amazing atmosphere. Both the artistes and the audience were in an elevated mood, thereby generating excellant classical music patterns.

Young Carnatic vocalists Trichur Brothers ShriKrishna Mohan and Ramkumar Mohan from Chennai gave inaugural Carnatic vocal concert. They sang duet with excellant understanding. Their melodious voice, sense of imagination and rendering techniques were noteworthy. They presented 'Varna'  and  'Krithis' in ragas like Natanarayani, Revathi, Kadanakutuhala, Todi and Hamsanada. Rendition of main item - 'Bantu Reethi ', a composition of Tyagaraja was a treat. The artistes were backed by apt accompanists I Ajithkumar (violin), Trichur R Mohan (mridangam) and D Venkatasubramanyam (ghatam) .

Local talent with national fame 'Surmani' Mahalakshmi Shenoy, disciple of Grammy Award winner Mohan Veena Pt Vishwamohan Bhatt presented Raag Bhageshree in Vilambit Ektaal and Drut teentaaal and also a Meera Bhajan in her well cultivated sonorous voice. Purity of tone, Clarity of expression and scintillating taan patterns mesmerized the audience. Sathish Kolli (Harmonium)  Rajendra Nakod (Tabla) and Greeshma Joishy supported well.

Young Yashwant Vaishnav (16 years) from Chattisgarh stole the heart of listeners with Tabla solo in Teentaal. His crystal clear playing of Tabla in varying patterns even at unimaginable high speeds was amazing. Sathvijay Bhat provided 'Lahara' on Harmonium.

Sandipan Samajpati of Kolkata sang Raagas Marubihag and Hamsadhwani and a Mishra Mand dhun. Style of Kiraana Gharana was appreciable in his rendering of elaborate Aalaap, tricky sargams and classic Taanbaaj. Satish Kolli (Harmonium) and Udayaraj Karpoor (Tabla) followed the artists  'Manodharma' without fail.   

Popular flutist Pravin Godkhindi captivated the audience who were waiting to listen to him even at 1.30 am with his stylish, penetrative recital of Raag 'Darbari Kanada' in Gayaki style and 'Shiv Abhogi' in Gatkari, style. His Mishra Pilu Dhun and concluding Bhairavi were ever memorable. Rajendra Nakod's Tabla support was extraordinary.

    Respected Swamiji Jayaram Prabhu,I am a Classical Tabla artist.And has already performed in prestigious and well known music Conference of India such as Haridas Sangeet Sammelan Mumbai, Saptak Festival Ahmedabad, Baba Hariballav Sangit Samaroh Jalandhar and India Habitat Centre and India International centre at Delhi. I am a disciple of Pt.Shankar Ghosh Kolkata besides a TALMANI title awardee from Sur Singar Samsad Mumbai. I would like to perform in your Tataaka Sangit Samaroh either asa solo Tabla Artist or as a accompanist. Kindly let me know what is the procedure.
