Mangaluru: Robbery, assault at Moodbidri - Three get ten years RI

Mangaluru, Aug 29: Relating to the case in which employees of a provisions store at Moodbidri were attacked and lacs of rupees had been looted five years back, the fourth additional district and sessions court here, has awarded ten years of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 12,000 each.

The persons held guilty and sentenced are Farooq alias Ummer Farooq (35) from Kasargod, Harish Shetty (50) from Beltangady Kempayyagudda and Satish Bhandary (57), a resident of Karinje Kallabettu. Another accused, Ashraf alias Chili Ashraf, a car driver, is absconding.

Muhammed Shariff was operating a provision store at Moodbidri where Chandrashekhar and Poornesh were employed. On November 9, 2015, these two employees had downed the shutters of the shop and were moving to the house of the owner with Rs 4.5 lac in cash by scooter when four persons who came in a Maruti 800 car waylaid the two scooterists near the government school at Moodbidri Prantya. Three from the car had attacked both of them with sharp weapons. Chandrashekhar and Poornesh, who suffered serious injuries, fell to the ground after which the accused fled with the bag of money.

A case was registered at Moodbidri police station about the incident. The police had succeeded in arresting three of the accused after six months. Police inspector, Anantha Padmanabha, who investigated the case, had filed a charge sheet in the court. Public prosecutor, Harishchandra Udyavar, argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
