‘No work, good salary’ – Mangalore University serves notice to assistant professor

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 9: The management of Mangalore University has served notice to its assistant professor in the department of sociology, Prof Govindaraju, seeking an explanation from him on a Facebook post he had created on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. The post could be interpreted in multiple ways.

The post Prof Govindaraju created on Facebook, reads thus, "I am proud to be a teacher because drawing a good salary without work, risk." Many who went through this post had criticised him besides sharing the post through tweets and WhatsApp statuses for being insensitive.

The post by Prof Govindaraju

Those who participated in discussions said that many teachers are losing their jobs because of coronavirus, while several others are either not getting salaries or being paid only a part of the salary. Still they are working hard. It is improper to make such posts at this hour of crisis, some said.

After the Facebook post came to the notice of the university management, it served notice on the professor, seeking his response in seven days. Vice chancellor of the university Prof P S Yadapadithaya, said that the concerned has been asked not to create such posts henceforth and to delete the post already created. "He also has made a post ridiculing a swamiji. It is improper for the people in responsible pubic positions to upload such posts," he said.

Shanker mangalore,I dont agree what he wrote ,to say he is proud to be a teacher to draw good salary and not work.He could have atleast write he is proud to be a teacher ,to help children to teach, and sad I cant at present because less work or cant help ..That makes a difference. One should be careful to write in a domain where everyone reads and public. The truth what you hide noone cares or take into corn. Now he has to answer or "madiddu unno ."

The assistant professor has told the truth. The teachers appointed by the government are drawing the salaries even at the time of covid-19, while the private teachers and part time teachers are struggling. Everyone who has been drawing salaries without working has been hurt and condemned his post including the vice chancellor!!

Well, we all make mistakes, so just put it behind you. We should regret our mistakes and learn from them, but never carry them forward into the future with us.
