Bengaluru, Oct 5: A meeting of heads of various Maths representing different castes, and other leaders will be held on October 18 to bring pressure on chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa, to adopt the social and educational survey (caste census) of all the families in the state, which was conducted by Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission.

A meeting held on Sunday under the aegis of the state backward castes union in the presence of state rural development and panchayat raj minister, K S Eshwarappa, to consider the issue of putting pressure on the government to adopt the said report, took the above decision. Eshwarappa mooted the proposal himself, which was unanimously accepted by the others.

Leaders of 68 caste-based organizations were present at the meeting. It was decided to bring together all the heads of Maths representing all the castes, leading political leaders and caste organizations for the said meeting. This meeting will be organized under the leadership of Backward Castes Union.

Addressing the meeting, Eshwarappa said that it is necessary to convince the chief minister to adopt the said census report. He said that 'convincing' will be the main motto, and the word, 'fight' should never be used when referring to this programme. He also said that he is confident that the CM will accept this demand. "Let us bring all the 198 castes for the October 18 meeting and convince Yediyurappa to adopt the report. I believe that he will accept our demand with an open mind," he added.

Kantaraj, who was the chairman of the backward classes commission when the said survey was undertaken, also participated in the meeting. He said that he was compelled to submit the report to the secretary of the commission as the state government dismissed him and members of the commission.
