The incident took place at around 2.00 am on Wednesday. Later in the evening the victim reportedly went to sleep and she was the only patient and had left the door open. Post midnight, a staff had noticed the guard loitering around the room. Upon asked, Suraj Kochewad (21), the guard told the nurse that he had come to fetch a cup of tea.

The guard was said to have entered the woman's room, grabbed her by her hand and gagged her. With this she woke up and tried to resist the guard. She then pressed the buzzer. The hospital staff was alerted by the persistent ringing and a couple of staff reached the spot and nabbed the guard, a police officer reported.
