Bangalore, May 18: “The trends in the gram panchayat election have reflected the frustration and anger of the people based in rural areas against the BJP government in the state,” analyzed Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, R V Deshpande.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday May 17 evening, he said that the Congress-supported candidates have been elected by the electorate in large numbers in all parts of the state. He felt that this is a mandate against the misrule of the state government.

“During our visits to villages in connection with the election campaigning, people had told us that they were suffering from shortage of power, drinking water and many more problems. They have given vent to their anger while casting their votes. This is a clear message to the government,” he said. When questioned as to how the Congress, which faced debacle in earlier elections, suddenly grew in popularity among the people, he said that all the leaders of the party had worked in unison for this success.

He warned Reddy brothers and BJP leader, Venkaiah Naidu, not to speak lightly of the Governor, as his position is exalted. “Governors have their own levels of respect and powers. The BJP leaders should exercise restraint while commenting about him,” he stressed.
