Margao, Oct 5: A portion of a shop selling meat and meat products at Gandhi Market, Margao, collapsed in the early hours of Sunday, averting a major tragedy as no vendors were present at the spot at the time.
The collapsed section of the structure is located near the toilet block in the market.
Hours later, a larger portion of the same structure also collapsed. Vendors had earlier been barred from sitting near the building in the morning as it was considered unsafe.
Traders said the precautionary measure ensured that no one was injured in either of the collapses.
As the building is under the control of the Margao Municipal Council, traders have demanded that the civic body take immediate steps to ensure the safety of vendors as well as shoppers visiting the market.
